G U O Football club started as a modest Club founded by the transport guru Chief Sir Dr G. U Okeke (Onwa) of Anambra State, and the club is owned 100% and sponsored by the company G.U Okeke & Sons Ltd.
The club emerged overall 3rd best at the 2008 edition of International Football Festival in Dubai UAE held at the ground of Al Shabab Club of Dubai
G.U.O also operates a football academy which have competed in several youth football programmes / tournaments
They were 2005 champions of the NANF U-19 National Youth League
In 1998 the club was formed by the President of the G.U.O Group
At very early stage of the club the duo of Dr Okigbo and Mr Christian C. Ezeagwu who were Coach and Manager respectively worked so hard with the heavy financial backing of the mentor Chief G. U Okeke to take the club to the stage where they currently stood
Thanks to the good government policies since advent of Democracy in Nigeria club are now managed more professionally and G.U.O is not an exception
At inception the Club was more focused on the youth academy and lived under the shadow of more bigger clubs around in the state
This trend continued as the club was a breeding ground where bigger clubs come to take good quality youth players who always latter grow to be big stars
